I love learning about the state of technology in the ancient world. I’m not sure we should be so amazed, but the ancient world was so much more advanced than we assume it to be. I suppose this is why I prefer it over the Middle Ages.
So, check it out. A first-aid kit found on a 2,000-year-old shipwreck has provided a remarkable insight into the medicines concocted by ancient physicians to cure sailors of dysentery and other ailments.
What do you think?
I have to agree. The Ancient World had to be a wondrous place to live. There was so much knowledge back then. Atoms were theorized. The circumference of the world was calculated. Architecture was flourishing. Medicine was plentiful. Then one day, people turned their back on this knowledge. And the dark ages begin. I often wonder where our civilization would be if all that knowledge wouldn’t have been lost or misplaced for years.
I think we’d have probably colonized Mars 😉
Also, what kind of barbarian don’t preserve flush toilet technology? I resent this!
It would be nice. Somehow even the most barbaric of butts needs some civilization!!
I LOVE stuff like this. Especially since many of those ancient, ‘natural’ medical techniques still work today (just don’t tell big pharma).
Seriously, it’s kind of shocking how many ancient and outdated forms of medical treatments actually do work. The Egyptians were doing brain surgery…of course, the infection would probably kill you…
