Okay this article about new pyramids found from space is just about the coolest thing ever. (You know you’re a special kind of geek when you’re more interested in pointing satellites at the earth to uncover hidden pyramids than you are at pointing it out at the stars.)

Egyptologists should shimmy and dance because it looks like archeology is about to get a major shot in the arm. Infra-red images of earth are revealing the outlines of houses, streets, and temples long lost beneath the desert sands.

“It just shows us how easy it is to underestimate both the size and scale of past human settlements,” says Dr Parcak.

Underestimation seems to be a common theme when it comes to antiquities. Just yesterday I listened to a scholar on the history channel profess astonishment that the Roman formulas for invisible ink actually work. I suspect we would be better off taking the ancients at their word about most things. Or at least giving them the benefit of the doubt.
