Look, I get it. We’re all burned out on controversies surrounding awards. Whether it’s complaints about the host of the Golden Globes or the Oscars or the RWA’s epic melt down over their annual award–it’s a lot. Which might make it tempting to tune out the most recent blow up about the 2023 Hugo Awards.
But this one takes legitimate gripes from other controversies and dials them up to eleven–roping in issues of responsibilities of citizens in ostensibly democratic nations when faced with censorship or the power of authoritarian regimes. Don’t tune this out.
